Cocolobo at Seagrape Plantation
Sailing

Sailing and sport fishing
Both are available through local charter companies. Several of these operations have long experience in deep-water fishing: catches include marlin, tuna, wahoo and barracuda. Local fisherman operating out of West End can take you on shorter trips.

Winsurfing
Wind surfing
A friendly Chilean couple run a windsurfing operation at nearby Sandy Bay: it is ideal for beginners.

Sea kayaking is a delightful way to explore the sea around Cocolobo and Half Moon Bay. You can also take a trip in the glass-bottomed boat that operates out of West End and West Bay. The more adventurous might consider exploring the reef in the mini-submarine at Half Moon Bay: it claims to go deeper than any other tourist submarine in the world.

Dolphins
About ten minutes from Cocolobo is the Roatan Institute for Marine Science. Here, important research is carried out with dolphins in the wild. But there's fun to be had too. Every afternoon, trainers call one or two dolphins in from the open sea to go through their paces for an appreciative audience. Both animals and humans love the informal show - and you can swim with the dolphins by arrangement.

Horseback riding is also available. Ride in the hills or along the beach between West End and West Bay.

Touring the island
Local taxi drivers can be contracted for a moderate price to take you round the island and show you the main sights. If you prefer to be independent, you can hire your own car or jeep, or else a scooter or motorcycle. Facilities are on hand in West End.

For nature-lovers, Roatan is a natural paradise. If you want to learn more about the flora and fauna, visits to the tropical gardens of Carambola, the Iguana farm and the Butterfly farm are recommended.

Night life
West End has a number of bars and discos as well as a video pub which shows a variety of movies. There is often live music at different locations near to West End: details are posted locally.
